Putting a face on a world class head-fi experience.

PURPOSE

After successfully partnering with dCS on previous custom product UI design, we were brought in to tackle a new product experience challenge. dCS was amidst development of a brand new product line within the emergent head-fi market place.

Taking into account a new set of product screen dimensions, functional controls, and software performance parameters, Versed was tasked with condensing a comprehensive set of complex settings into a new user interface. Primary goals were economy, ease of use, and an experience design aesthetic commensurate with a product that delivers the ultimate sonic experience for head-fi connoisseurs.

PROCESS

As is the case in physical product design campaigns, time was of the essence, so we got cracking at broad UX conceptualization activities – exploring the dimensionality of the entire product and tangible product use cases. From here, we quickly moved into mapping out the entire product application tree, and extended it across multiple prospective user journeys. These first steps were critical in developing a holistic perspective of the 'human-product' interaction element of the project.

Leveraging insights captured through the aforementioned discovery, we moved into UI design conceptualization with an aim of aligning 'on screen' functionality controls with four tactile buttons residing on the front panel of the physical device.

Collaborating with multiple dCS product and engineering team leads, we prototyped and device tested each step in defined user paths to hone in on the most simple and effective UX approach. Once the general experience map had been established, we shifted gears and moved into design refinement, including the production of a full custom icon set on par with the elegance of the product's physical design.

PAYOFF

Upon confirmation of technical feasibility and a general thumbs up from the dCS product team, we delivered a comprehensive design library, inclusive of a comprehensive suite of iconography, a refined and understated color palette, UI/UX design specs, and typography.
